About our Gypsy Moth Prevention Service
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Gypsy Moth Prevention service?
Our Gypsy moth prevention service helps eliminate Gypsy moth caterpillar populations on your property before they defoliate and kill your valuable trees. Each tree trunk is wrapped with a specially designed tape that is very sticky.
-
When is this service performed?
Each tree is wrapped in the spring (May - Early June) before the caterpillar (larvae) life stage of the Gypsy moth emerges. The caterpillar life stage aggressively feeds on the trees foliage so timing is critical to ensure the caterpillars are targeted.
-
How does the tape stop the caterpillars?
Each tree is carefully wrapped tight with a 6-12” wide band securing a barrier the caterpillars get stuck to and cannot cross. This prevents the caterpillars from travelling up and down the trunk and reaching the foliage.
-
How long does the tape remain sticky?
The tape is specially designed to remain sticky for months under all weather conditions. The tape can be removed at the end of the season and reapplied the next season.
-
Is the sticky tape harmful to my trees?
NO. The tape is specially designed for tree wrap applications.
